About this mod

Replaces your Mabari hound with a Blood Wolf based on a retextured Blight Wolf or a typical Wolf or a retextured Timber Wolf. And, with the optional files, can replace most all Mabari with a retextured white Blight Wolf model.

Permissions and credits
I have abandoned this mod. Please use these files in any way you wish. I have no desire to hold license over them. I did this for the gaming communities enjoyment. And my own of course.

Known conflicts:
Improved Atmosphere
http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=577
Fix: Locate the APR_BASE.gda in the installed file "C:Users(you)DocumentsBioWareDragon AgepackagescoreoverrideImproved Atmosphere5. Miscellaneous5.1. Bodies Stay" I have a replacement for that file in the additional files. After you replace it, rename the improved Atmosphere APRBase.GDA "APR_Base.gda.old" or the game will have issues when any wolves spawn.

Version: 1.94
Mod Name: Dog and Mabari to Wolf replacer
Author: Icthulu

Inspired by Gogetto(DANexus) "A wolf is a man's best friend"
found at: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=112

============================================================

* Version History *
0.1: Initial release
0.2: Made the Blood Wolf a separate creature that does not interfere with other creature resources. Creature ID 61001
1.0: Tested and does not effect any Mabari hounds.
1.01: Removed accidental inclusion of Crust effect ::repeatedly beat head against desk after seeing a flaming headed Mabari in the party::
0.9: Downgraded due to tat's functioning on the wolf when previously they never had.
1.1: Updated zip to include War Paint overrides. Does not effect NPC Mabari.
1.9: Optionally, you can replace most of the NPC and ambient Mabari with the Blight Wolf model. That install uninstall guide is included in the .zip as it's very simple. NPC Mabari creature ID 61002.
1.91: Generated new gen00fl_dog.utc due to possible corruption in the file that disallowed naming of Dog.
1.92: A fixed crust effect from 1.01 cropped up again. Repaired and replaced files.
1.93: Problem with removal of files corrupting party selection corrected by removal of gen00fl_dog.utc to rely on APL_Base solely for model alterations. Rebuilt all ZIPs.
1.94: Added 2 NPC UTC files so that Dog appears as the altered model at Ostagar, and at the epilogue for continuance.
1.94.1: Added 2 Black texture Wolves to list of possible models for Dog.

* Description *

This mod overrides Dog with one of several retextured Wolves and will not interfere with any other game resources.

Modder refference:
Blood Wolf creature ID: 61001
White Blight Wolf creature ID: 61002
Night Wolf creature ID: 61003
Wolf creature ID: 61004
Timber Wolf creature ID: 61005
Black Wolf creature ID: 61006

This also increase the running speed slightly in and out of combat for Dog, wolves, and blight wolves so they more approximate the real ones.

With the optional files, this replaces most all Mabari in the game. This also increase the speed of all Mabari.

* Installation *

Drag and drop into DAModder, and it installs just fine. Otherwise...

For users running Win7, the files should be unzipped to:
C:Users(you)DocumentsBioWareDragon Agepackagescoreoverride

WinXP Seems to need: C:Program FilesDragon Agepackagescoreoverride. But I do not run XP anymore so I have no idea if this is certain. But if you have done any modding of your game, likely you already know where.

Appearance change is automatic and instantaneously whether already acquired or you have yet to acquire Dog. Nothing further required.

Though you can, without error, install multiple versions of the replacer. The multiple versions will not work together. Only one APR_base_mdlandspdadj.GDA will actually function. So choose the one you want, and rename the rest of the gda files "APR_base_mdlandspdadj.GDA.old", or something like that, if you wish to switch again another time, or have the models available in game to use the "runscript appearance" command.

============================================================

* Uninstallation *

Locate the folder you copied to your override directory and delete it. If you can't find it, run a search for "APR_base_mdlandspdadj.GDA". Now you are done and back to normal.

============================================================

* Known Issues 1.93 and above *

None, yet.

============================================================

* 1.92 and earlier uninstallation issue *

The party selection screen was getting corrupted if you removed all the files that altered dog.

Two solutions are available:

1: Delete the gen00fl_dog.utc file and let the files clutter a couple megs of HD space. In game, select dog, type "runscript appearance 35" and you are done. Not exactly the best solution as it retains the altered appearance in the Party selection screen, but it's much faster if you don't care.

2: The real solution is a little more involved but very simple. This is a permanent fix and any future games and save will be unaltered as long as the gen00fl_dog file has been deleted from the override folder set.

Make a game save, quick or otherwise, and exit DA:O

In order to edit the savegame, open up "D:Dragon AgetoolsGffEditor.exe". Then locate your save in the "C:Users(you)DocumentsBioWareDragon AgeCharacters(character name)Saves" folders. The higher the number in the Slot_X folder, the later the savegame. So use your latest if you didn't use a quicksave, or an autosave.

Open the largest file which will have the .das file extension.

Expand SAVEGAME_PARTYLIST. Then expand SAVEGAME_PARTYPOOLMEMBERS. Expand the numbers 0 to whatever till you see gen00fl_dog in the top value. This is the branch we want.

Scroll down till you see SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE. Expand that and look for the last line in that branch. SAVEGAME_APPEARANCE_ORIGINAL_TYPE. It may list 61001 or 61004 or whatever model you installed. Change this to 35. Save, and exit. Ignore the external reference error. it doesn't matter. Delete the das.bak file if you wish to be excessively thorough.

When you load the game from that save, the last alteration will have been removed, and you can play your game as normal. If you wish to use multiple saves, you will need to do this for each one but likely the latest is enough for most people.

============================================================

* Bad name or skipped Dog name *

This will not occur because of these mods, but If you "esc" too fast to get through some of the dialog when receiving your Mabari, you may lose the chance to name it. This also occurs if you have a Dog altering project in Toolset addins.

If this happens, make a quicksave. Then exit the game and open up Dragon Age Toolset.

Select Open file and find your quicksave in C:Users(you)DocumentsBioWareDragon AgeCharacters(Character name)SavesQuickSave_1savegame.das. Note you can't edit autosaves, the Toolset will crash. Scroll down and expand SAVEGAME PARTYLIST, Then expand SAVEGAME PARTYPOOLMEMBERS. Then find your companion by expanding one of the numbers. When you see SAVEGAME OBJECT NAME line, just replace after the colons. Save, and load from your quicksave and you should be all set.
