Description

With this simple and single-purpose mod you'll be able to make screenshots during conversations and cutscenes without annoying parts of the interface like your responses, subtitles or top and bottom black letterboxes. As a small bonus you'll be able to hide these parts anytime during conversation or cutscene even without making actual screenshot.

History

  • Mar 19, 2010 v1.0: optional files added which preserve black letterboxes
  • Mar 19, 2010 v1.0: initial release

Installation

  • download correct file version for your game, unzip and drop it into BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override subfolder in your user profile (I recommend creating new subfolder for the file but it isn't necessary),
  • start the game and from main menu select "Options", in the "Key Bindings" section on the "Controls" page change alternative keyboard shortcut for "Screenshot" command to F12 and confirm.

Uninstallation

Just delete the file in your override subfolder and it's done.

Usage

During conversations or cutscenes press F12 for making screenshot without parts of the interface, Print Screen (or any other keyboard shortcut you have configured in the "Key Bindings" section) for normal screenshot and Ctrl key for hiding parts of the interface without making actual screenshot (it'll be hidden as long as you'll hold the key).

Issues

  • if you are playing in the window mode (not in full screen) then keyboard shortcut will be properly detected only when your mouse cursor is inside of the game window - otherwise normal screenshot will be taken including parts of the interface,
  • if you still see parts of the interface on some or even all your screenshots try this approach: use Ctrl + something (I recommend Ctrl + Print Screen or Ctrl + F12) as your alternative keyboard shortcut for "Screenshot" command instead of F12 - now whenever you make a screenshot with this keyboard combination, parts of the interface will be hidden already thanks to Ctrl key,
  • some cutscenes are pre-rendered as movies and removing letterboxes will not work with them.

Recommendation

I recommend using FtG UI Mod which will allow you - among other goodies - changing size and color of your responses and subtitles, moving subtitles to the bottom of the screen if you prefer that and will also hide black letterboxes during the whole conversation.

Thanks

Big thanks to FollowTheGourd for his work, for permission to make a compatible version with his mod and for very helpful comments here and there in several discussions over the Internet - only thanks to his shared knowledge I was able to make it work!
